The State of the Educational System
Posted: December 17, 2011
I came across this article and thought it was pretty balanced, so I decided to comment on it. No matter how you slice it, it seems that the educational system of this country is in trouble.
If you live in Florida and have children, then I’m sure you’ll be really upset after finding out that 89% of our kids did not make adequate improvements this year.
Unlike the media, I’m not looking for someone to blame. Instead, I’m thinking of what I can do to make a difference.
At Elite Martial Arts, we send progress reports home with our kids, and both their parents and their teachers must say that they are doing a good job at school and at home. These forms are filled out in order for the children to be allowed to test for their next belt rank.
Since every child in our program wants to advance, it becomes a clear goal for the children to achieve.
Additionally, most children today struggle when it comes to focusing. It is not surprising that they find it difficult to concentrate in a world that is characterized by television, video games, and cell phones.
In speaking to a lot of parents, it seems as though many kids today whine about doing their homework for a longer period of time than it takes to actually complete their homework. This means that the kids don’t have an issue with time, but time management.
This is why the positive influence of martial arts, and the life-skills that we focus on can make a difference in your child’s life. We not only give your children an outlet for their energy, but also teach them to focus and complete tasks instead of whining about them.
