The Good Son: The Life of Ray Boom Boom Mancini

I recently watched this movie on Netflix, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so I thought I would share this movie with our students.
First of all, this is not an action movie. It’s a documentary which focuses on the life of Lightweight Champion, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini. I still remember watching Mancini box when I was a child. I remember the ill-fated championship fight he had with Duk Koo Kim in 1982, which ended in Kim’s death. If this fight had not ended fatally, it would probably be regarded as one of the best boxing matches in history.
This film also shows the effect of the fight, and Kim’s subsequent death, on the lives of Duk Koo Kim’s fiance’ and son. It culminates with Mancini meeting Kim’s family for the first time and the resulting emotions surface from that meeting.
I think this documentary is tastefully done, and handles the complex subject matter well.
