I had a great time training today at the Instructor Camp at the Inosanto Academy in Marina Del Rey, CA. It was nice to see old friends, and also to make new ones.
Nine hours of training today, and I look forward to some more tomorrow. My body hurts all over, but it was so much fun, that I would do it all over again. Today was like a martial arts marathon, and I can’t wait to run another leg of the race tomorrow.
Special thanks to Simo Jen for teaching the classes at our school, both yesterday and today. Also thank you to the ITP team that helped assist in classes.
Daisy Scouts at Elite Martial Arts
Posted: February 24, 2011
This past weekend we had a great time on Sunday, when we hosted a Daisy troupe of Girl Scouts. In case you weren’t aware, Daisies are girl scouts that are in kindergarten and first grade. It was a lot of fun, and the girls did an excellent job. We focused on the life skills of confidence, strength, and having respect for ourselves and others. I think the Girl Scouts are a great organization, and it was a pleasure to work with them.
Never Let Your Guard Down, a Lesson From Football?
Posted: February 20, 2011
What does a trick play in football have to do with martial arts? In all sports as well as in life, it is important to never let your guard down. In football it results in your opponent scoring a touchdown. In life, or in a self-defense situation, it can result in you getting hurt.
In football it is referred to as a “trick play” or a “gimmick play”. In the street please be aware that many street fighters have their own “gimmicks”. They like to do things like throwing something at you to make you flinch, before attacking you. This clip demonstrates in a fun way, why you should never let your guard down.
I hope you enjoy the play.
Don’t Make It Complicated

I recently read an article about Nordstrom’s Department stores and I thought about it’s relevance not only to martial arts, but to life in general. For many years the Employee Manual for Nordstrom’s consisted of a 5″X8″ card with the following words:
Welcome to Nordstrom
A Cool Parenting Resource

I just wanted to let everyone know of a pretty cool parenting blog on about.com. The blog is by Katherine Lee, and she covers a lot of different subjects.
As with every parenting resource, it’s up to each parent to determine what is good information and which is bad. I may agree on certain topics and not on others, but in general her information is pretty good. Additionally it’s on about.com, which is a very trusted internet resource. The Blog is located in the link below.
