Segal and Silva, Expanding the Knowledge Base

Posted: March 27, 2011

I thought that this was pretty interesting. It’s nice to see MMA fighters looking to expand their knowledge base and draw upon other martial arts to help their chances in the octagon. Regardless of what you may think of Steven Segal, (positive or negative) the main point here is that Anderson Silva is continuing his growth in the martial arts.

This is quite old, before the Sonnen fight, but it’s interesting to see how Segal is introducing concepts that the average MMA fighter doesn’t think of or apply. I think that this type of cross training will enhance the sport even more in the future.

What’s even cooler is the fact that Anderson Silva makes the moves more compact and in my opinion more efficient.

The Fighter

Posted: March 26, 2011

I had the pleasure of finally watching the movie “The Fighter”, starring Mark Wahlberg. It has some strong language, so it’s not really suitable for kids; but this movie is great. It’s about a lot more than just boxing, it’s about overcoming obstacles and moving toward your dreams. The acting is great, so rent it today.

The trailer is provided below.
