Elite Martial Arts

MMA and Police Officers

Posted: April 15, 2011

I read an interesting article on how Mixed Martial Arts has affected the training of police officers in Canada. Apparently, the popularity of MMA means that a lot of “bad guys” now have martial arts training, and the police officers need to be better prepared to deal with them.

Officers need to be well rounded in striking, takedown defense, grappling, and weapons. In addition they need to be proficient in keeping their guns and tasers from being taken away and used against them.

I’m happy to see that law enforcement officers are being better prepared, but what concerns me is that the “bad guys” are becoming better in MMA.

Mortal Kombat Legacy

I came across this trailer for this online series. For fans of the Mortal Kombat games and movies, it provides the back-story and beginnings of some of the characters. It stars Michael Jai White, and some notable others. Please be warned that the series itself contains cursing and extreme violence. It is not intended for children. The trailer that I posted doesn’t have any cursing, but it does show violence, so please don’t show it to children and sensitive viewers

A Word About Passion and Perseverance

Posted: April 09, 2011

Being in the Martial Arts business is really a blessing. I come into contact with a variety of different people from all walks of life on a daily basis. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching many very successful people and there is a high correlation with how well people do in martial arts, and how well they do in their personal lives.

The common denominator that defines these people are passion and perseverance. These people tend to be decisive. If they make up their mind that they want to get a black belt, they are relentless in their pursuit of this goal. In their personal and professional lives, they tend to show the same passion and perseverance, and consequently it has led them to success in their lives.

This all seems like common sense, but the reason I bring this up is that I see a very disturbing trend developing in the general populace. Many people are walking around with no passion about anything. They are also extremely likely to start things and then quit when things get difficult.
