The Need For Simplicity

Posted: May 08, 2011

I had an interesting experience today as I was shopping with my wife at the “Container Store”.  If you have never been to this store, it is exactly what you would expect.  They sell a bunch of containers to put all of your stuff in.

The strangest thing is that we as Americans spend a lot of money on stuff.  We speak of helping those less fortunate, and then instead of giving our old stuff away, we spend more money at a container store so that we can hoard things which are useless to us, but could be of a benefit to someone else.

How does this relate to martial arts?

I really used to enjoy watching K1. It was a great venue for standup fighters. The action was always incredible. The following video is a highlight reel of knockouts. If you like action, then I’m sure you’ll love it.

The following video may not be suitable for children.

First Black Belt Pre-test

Posted: April 16, 2011

Congratulations to DeWayne Barbee, Peter Belmont, Ian McIntosh, and Dane Rahaman-Singh; for completing our Academy’s first Black Belt Pre-test.

Since our school is only 3 years old, these four gentlemen were the first students to be allowed to take the pre-test. This pre-test is used to determine the physical ability and the perseverance of students that are being considered for Black Belt.

I won’t go into the specifics of the test, but I just want to say that I was extremely happy with the performance of these four men. They did an excellent job, and they all earned the right to be tested in our first Black Belt Testing that will be taking place in the next few months.
